One thing I love about our smart phones is that they are open. That we as a manufacturer are not alone in defining how the phone is used and what the phone is used for. If you asked someone ten years ago what they used their mobile phone for, the obvious answer would be: “For phone calls and text messages.” That’s not the case anymore.

Ask the creative artists and intellectuals who have contributed to Xperia™ Studio what they use Xperia™ arc for and the reply will be: “To see the invisible colours in universe” or “To trigger an external gas flash when taking a photo”. Check out Xperia studio  to see astrophysicists, artists, musicians and photographers go crazy with Xperia™ arc and really push the phones limits. Enjoy! I do:-)

Welcome to the new and improved Product Blog

Well, as Rikard wrote recently this Product Blog has been around for a couple of years now, evolving from the great project Rikard and Gustav started with the Satio Launch blog to what it is today, an important way for us to communicate with you, our users, not only to let you know what is new around Sony Ericsson but also to listen to what you have to say about the products and our company.

And now, also as Rikard wrote, we are introducing (drumroll please) … the new look and place for the Sony Ericsson Product Blog!

You will find the blog not only with a cool new look, but also some new features:

You will also find that the Most Active Commentors table is gone, due to the change in design and functionality, we decided to let go of that feature.

We hope you like the change (we love it!) and that you will keep reading the blog and letting us know your thoughts. We have still a lot to come and we hope you will be here to accompany us in the journey!

Let us know what you thing about the new look and features!

Are you wondering how you can make your mobile game or app standout better? We can show you how… in Las Vegas. That where we will be hosting a speaking session, as part of this year’s Verizon Developer Community (VDC) Conference happening September 13-14 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Forget the slots and the Strip, the real action (for developers) will be at VDC, Verizon’s yearly conference designed to get your app into as many customers’ hands as possible. We took some time to talk with Magnus Ekenheim, Sony Ericsson’s Head of the Developer Program. Read on to find out what’s in store for our developers at VDC.

What does Sony Ericsson have planned at VDC?

We will be having a booth on in the Developer Lounge of the main floor, fully staffed by various Sony Ericsson departments, including the Developer Program team. You’ll also be able to try out the newest games available on the Xperia™ PLAY on our two giant screens. On both days, we’ll be giving away three Verizon Xperia™ PLAYs to the players with the three highest score on Asphalt 6: Adrenaline.

Are there any speaking sessions planned?

Yes! We will be focusing on helping our developers to build better games that will stand out from the crowd by hosting a special speaking session. On Tuesday, September 13, 2:15 PM – 3:15 PM, Aaron Duke and Anupam Nath will be leading the session – Stand out from the crowd with Xperia™ PLAY. Aaron, a Sony Ericsson Product Manager, will explain how the Xperia™ PLAY is redefining the world of mobile gaming. He will also go over the “current state of PLAY” as well as identify the benefits of developing for Xperia™ PLAY. Anupam, a Developer Program Engineer, will review the standard Android™ developer tools available to developers, and the additional resources you can find on the Sony Ericsson Developer site. He will also provide an overview of how to access gamepad buttons and the touchpad, along with valuable developer guidelines and recommendations to keep in mind when developing Xperia™ PLAY games.

What can developers expect to get out of attending VDC?

I think it is a really good opportunity to meet with other developers, learn about the Stand out from the crowd promotional program, and get exposed to other apps, tools and ideas that may enhance your own app. You can also book 1-1s with Sony Ericsson business developers.

Thanks Magnus!

And we hope to see you there!
